Of all the Port houses, few are more renowned and historic as Taylor’s. Taylor’s is one of the oldest founding Port Houses; a history that began in 1692, it remains to this day independent and family-owned. It’s ageing cellars remain in Oporto, the birthplace of the Port industry.
Taylor’s is also revered for its innovation, having pioneered the Late Bottled Vintage style. Its resources are unrivalled, with one of the largest reserves of cask-aged wines to create their tawny Ports and an extensive ownership of the top vineyard sites throughout the Douro.
Grape Variety
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela and Tinto Cão
Includes grapes which have been traditionally foot trodden. Aged for two years in large old casks, prior to bottling unfiltered and unfined.
The Winter preceeding the 2003 harvest was very wet. Flowering took place in bright warm weather at the end of May in some of the best conditions seen for several years. The first two weeks of August provided the intense Summer heat which often precedes a great Port Vintage. The picking season in September was warm, dry and the yields were even across all grape varieties, ensuring balance and complexity in the wines.
