This is the very epitome of rosé wine – hauntingly pale, bright crushed red berry fruits and a creamy medium bodied texture. It’s English strawberries in a bottle with a lick of cracked black pepper – uncomplicated and above all refreshing. The Pays d’Oc refers to the Languedoc Roussillon district in the south of France – also known as “le Midi” by the French. The region is the biggest expanse of vineyards anywhere in France, from the Rhône delta right down to the Spanish border. This is also the most traditional area in France for the production of pale and red berry rosés, based on the classical varieties of Grenache (Noir) and Cinsault.
It is made by Eric Monnin who has cleverly captured the fruit and spice character of these grapes, whilst keeping the wine relatively delicate and rounded.
Classic pale salmon pink, with a delicate floral and red berry nose. Medium bodied, crisp palate with a juicy, tangy summer pudding flavour together with a delicate hint of spice on the finish.
So many options with this wine – just chill and enjoy as a summer aperitif, or with summer salads (especially good with a shaved fennel bulb, fennel seeds, dill and lemon salad), BBQ grilled salmon (or even better sea trout) with new potatoes.
