2015 Percheron Chenin Blanc Viognier
This wine is made by Marinda Kruger-van Eck for Boutinot South Africa who are particular champions of the old bush vine Chenin Blanc, which still exists in parts of South Africa. Now in their 22nd vintage in South Africa, Boutinot has a long-standing relationship with their affiliated growers, who know how, and where to source the best quality grapes for their wines.
In this blend, the judicious addition (20%) of the Rhône Viognier grape combines nicely with the tropical and pear notes of the Chenin Blanc to give an exotic and very fruity lift to the wine which is unoaked.
This is a lovely wine to drink on its own, but it also has plenty of body and so works well with simple foods such as grilled fish or chicken as well as BBQ garlic chilli prawns. It’s delicious with avocado salad (with Romaine lettuce, tomato, with/without dry cured bacon or ham).
