Origin
Gavi di Gavi, or Cortese di Gavi, is a renowned white wine DOCG appellation in Piedmont. Vineyards are planted over 110 hectares with southern exposure at an altitude of 300-500 metres above sea level. This wine is sourced from a single vineyard, Lugarara, which sits on grey marl with sandy topsoil.
Producer
The winery is located on an ancient property, passed down to the Giustiniana family in 1625 after one of their members successfully led Genoa’s troops to defend the Fort of Gavi.
The Giustiniana estate has been transformed since 1998 under the auspices of consultant Donato Lanati – along with winemaker Matteo Zerbo – with much improved resource and focus in both vineyards and winery. They own 40 has of vineyards in the commune Roverto in Gavi and make wines from two single vineyards.
