This wine is bright ruby red in colour. On the nose, there are intense aromas of red fruits, combined with floral and spice notes. On the palate, it is vibrant, well balanced with soft tannins and a long, silky finish.

Origin

The vineyards for Vigneti Zabù were planted in 2005 on the hills around Lake Arancio in Sambuca di Sicilia in southwestern Sicily. The uncontaminated area of Sambuca di Sicilia is a rich land with ancient vineyards. Lake Arancio, with its crystal-clear water, creates a perfect microclimate for viticulture.

Producer

This is a young estate in southwestern Sicily, whose vineyards caught the eye and winemaking talents of Valentino Sciotti. Valentino (of Gran Sasso and Vesevo) saw they had great vineyards and a good winery but were missing the necessary expertise to make wines the market required. Valentino and his team of young winemakers have taken the raw materials and transformed them into wines that people want to drink.

Grape Variety

100% Nerello Mascalese

The shoots were cut to allow a natural withering of the grapes which increased the sugar content, thanks to the hot Sicilian sun and the wind that comes from Africa. After about 15-20 days, the grapes had lost about 15-20% of their weight and were then pressed. Fermentation was carried out on the skins and after a long maceration, the wine was transferred into barriques made of French and American oak, where it remained for about six months.

Food Match

This is a rich and textural wine which works well with bold, meaty dishes such as a marinade stews, also Coq au Vin.

Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

fabulous, delicious deep berry and chocolate flavours and interesting floral note on nose, smooth and easy drinking

  2. N

Tried the 2014. Loved this medium to full bodied wine. Dark ripe cherry based fruit, tea and savoury notes all pop up. It has a bitter sweet character too and finishers back towards the fruit which is the main attraction. Great value.

  3. Will (verified owner)

You cannot go wrong with this wine it’s sublime. Very powerful and fruity and superbly smooth to drink. loved it
