Origin

The Saumur-Champigny appellation lies in the heart of the Loire Valley, encompassing 1500 hectares of vineyards in the adjacent parishes of Saumur and Champigny. The area is characterised by the production of Cabernet Franc wines with crisp acidity and vibrant fruit flavours, and subsoils consisting of tuffeau – a type of limestone typical of the Loire. The Saumur-Champigny denomination can only be used for red wine production, so any of the Domaine’s Chenin Blanc parcels have to come under the broader Saumur appellation.

Producer

This is one of the newest and certainly most up-and-coming estates in Saumur-Champigny. It was established by Philippe Porché and his wife Agnès in late 2004; the estate having been previously run as a cooperative. Vines have an average age of 30 years. Philippe has lived and worked in Saumur all his life (some 50 years), so brings a wealth of experience. This, combined with young viticulturist Jérome Callet, and state-of-the-art wine making facilities bodes very well for the future.
