Origin

Situated in the south of the Côte-d’Or region – one famous for its unmatched Chardonnays – vineyards totaling 16 hectares are located in prime areas including Santenay, Chassagne-Montrachet and Maranger. The grapes sourced for this wine come from the former. The vines were planted in the most part between 1935 and 1955, carefully nurtured year after year.

Producer

The Domaine Bachey-Legros is an old family run estate centered in the picturesque village of Santaney-le-Haut, which started out as grape growers in the 19th Century under François Bachey. 6th generation Christiane and her two sons Samuel and Lénaïc have run the Domaine since 1993. They produce wine on a small scale, around 7,000 cases a year.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.

The ethos of the Domaine is very much on the use of “old vines” – or Vieilles Vignes – with many vineyards parcels being in excess of 60 years of age. A thoroughly modern winery applies the right mix of modern and traditional Burgundian practices and the resultant wines are a heady mix of purity and intensity.

Food Match

So good it demands a classic food pairing such as brill with beurre blanc and baby capers, Scottish Langoustines, or crab parfait with a bisque style sauce.
