Rich and structured but balanced by a lovely freshness and vitality. Deep black fruits on the palette, punchy and rounded with a creamy texture. Valpolicella on another level.

The Torre d’Orti label refers to a precise area on the hills above the village of Marcellise. The site was once used for defence, Castello di Montorio building a watchtower to keep an eye on enemies; today, it is lent to the cultivation of grapes. The location was sort after due to the presence of red soil, typical of Valpolicella Classico, lending acidity, flavour and balance to the grapes.

The Piona family are in charge of the estate, who believe in a natural approach. The terroir was carefully selected, once owned by Castello di Montorio, in order to produce the best quality grapes and allowing for minimal intervention. Yields are kept very low in order to maximise that quality.

Grape Variety

65% Corvina and Corvinone, 25% Rondinella and 10% Others.

The wine is made using the traditional ripasso method, whereby the wine is refermented on the skins of dried Amarone grapes. This add extra dimensions of colour, body and concentration.

Food Match

Traditional and Italian is the obvious choice, try with wild boar or pasta with a ragù sauce. Alternatively, try with something a bit more native like sausages, or even Haggis!
