From the region of Murcia in southern Spain. Vineyards lie outside the town of Yecla, which gives its name to the wine of the surrounding area and has become renowned for its Monastrell (or Mourvèdre), a grape variety which copes well with hot and dry conditions. This vineyard is situated at 750 metres above sea level; high altitude means that hot days are tempered by cool nights, which lengthens the ripening process.

Bodega Castaño own nearly 450 hectares of vineyard in the Yecla region. The family of founder Ramon Caston Santa has been associated with grape and wine production for generations. In the vineyards from which the Monastrell grape is sourced the producers practise dry farming practises, whereby no irrigation is used in their cultivation.

Grape Variety

The wine is made 100% from Monastrell. The grapes underwent a direct pressing without maceration on the skins. Fermentation took place at 16°C in stainless steel tanks for 13-14 days, and underwent cold stabilisation before bottling.

Food Match

A perfect partner to vegetarian dishes. Also works well with pan-fried, oily fish – particularly salmon. On a festive note, an alternative to white with the Turkey.
Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Dry, full with presence, this mild-mannered rosado quaffs well. It doesn’t go beyond the basics of semi crisp berry flavors and a touch of pepper though. Good value bottle for the price.
