Origin
Sourced from a mix of vineyards in the hills of Monferrato in the San Nicolao area, near the historic town of Asti.
Producer
Terre da Vino encompasses over 5,000 hectares of vineyards cultivated by around 2,500 growers. This allows them to produce large quantities of wine, but also at a high and consistent quality level. Terre da Vino, not unsurprisingly, offer a large range of wines, including Barolo and Barbaresco, but their strength probably lies in the standard and style of their more generic wines and districts. What unites the range is their driving philosophy: “Only wines from Piedmont and only wines that have the appellation disciplined by DOC or DOCG regulation”.
Grape Variety
100% Barbera
Although Piedmont’s leading black grape is the mighty Nebbiolo (the grape behind Barolo and Barbaresco) Barbera is actually the most popular and widespread variety – maybe accounting for up to 50% of production in the region. Not the tannic grip of Nebbiolo it often punches above its weight with its signature bramble fruits and racy acidity.
Grapes were harvested from 20 year old vines in the first week of October. Fermented for 15 days in stainless steel at a normal red winemaking temperature, with a further maceration to extract colour and tannin. Then aged in stainless steel for 6 months and a further 3 months in bottle

This went surprisingly well with cheese. Nice flavours of cherries, fennel and subtle wood. It has a great balance of sweetness and acidity.

A great, and very Italian wine. Great with lamb pasta dish. Good value and one I’ll be returning to for sure.
